SiRT--Report Released in investigation of Stellarton Police Officer
----------------------------------------------------------------
The province's Serious Incident Response Team (SiRT) will not be laying charges in a situation of possible domestic violence in May involving a Stellarton Police Officer.
On May 27, 2013, SiRT received a referral from the New Glasgow Police Service about a possible domestic violence incident occurring in that town involving a Stellarton Police officer. The SiRT investigation considered whether the officer may have uttered threats to his wife during an argument.
The investigation showed the words spoken by the officer in this case did not meet the definition of a criminal threat, and as a result there were no reasonable grounds to charge the officer.
The full report is available at http://sirt.novascotia.ca .
SiRT is responsible for investigating all serious incidents involving police in Nova Scotia. Investigations are under the direction and control of independent civilian director Ron MacDonald.
