SiRT Confirms Investigation into Arrest of Woman in Hammonds Plains
The province's independent Serious Incident Response Team (SIRT) confirmed today that it will be investigating the circumstances surrounding the arrest of a woman for attempted murder on the night of November 4, 2014 in Hammonds Plains.
At approximately 9 p.m. that evening RCMP responded to a call from Fisher Drive in Hammonds Plains concerning a 51-year-old male suffering from stab wounds. Preliminary investigation by RCMP officers led them to attempt the arrest of a 48-year-old woman who lived in the home with the male. The woman fled from police into a nearby wooded area and was believed to be armed with a knife. Police determined it was necessary to utilize the assistance of a police service dog and with the assistance of a Halifax Regional Police K-9 Unit member, the woman was arrested. During the course of the arrest, the woman sustained injuries to her leg.
As a result, the RCMP immediately contacted SiRT who have now confirmed the matter constitutes a serious incident that meets their mandate.
Anyone who may have witnessed the incident is asked to call SIRT at 1-855-450-2010.
