SIRT Concludes New Brunswick Investigation into Theft

The Director of the Serious Incident Response Team (SiRT) found no reasonable grounds to believe a member of the New Brunswick RCMP committed theft during the execution of a search warrant in Rosedale, New Brunswick.
On July 27, 2023, RCMP executed a search warrant at a property that resulted in the seizure of firearms and cash, along with other evidence. The male owner of the home and his common law partner were both charged with firearm offences, which were later withdrawn
The male contacted RCMP on November 28, 2024, to retrieve the items seized during the search. He was advised that $120 would be returned. The male stated the total seized was $1,200. As a result, SiRT was contacted by the RCMP on December 3, 2024, and started their investigation that day.
Following an investigation, there was insufficient evidence to establish whether a theft was committed.
The Director’s summary report is available at: 24-088-summary-of-investigation.pdf .
SiRT is responsible for investigating all matters that involve death, serious injury, sexual assault and intimate partner violence or other matters of a public interest to be investigated that may have arisen from the actions of any police officer in Nova Scotia and New Brunswick. Investigations are under the direction and control of an independent civilian director, who has the sole authority to determine if charges should be laid at the conclusion of an investigation.
