SIRT Concludes Investigation into Serious Injuries in New Brunswick
The Interim Director of the Serious Incident Response Team (SiRT) found no reasonable grounds to believe that a member of the Woodstock RCMP committed a criminal offence in connection with serious injuries sustained by a man in February 2023.
The RCMP responded to a request to attend hospital on February 8, 2023, during the assessment of a patient who was detained under the New Brunswick Mental Health Act. The patient attempted to escape, and the officer used physical force, deployed a CEW, and used OC (pepper) spray. The male ultimately smashed a window and jumped through it, which resulted in serious lacerations that required a large number of stitches. The Interim Director found no reasonable grounds to believe that the officer committed a criminal offence in the course of the interaction.
