SiRT Concludes Investigation Into Death
The Interim Director of the Serious Incident Response Team (SiRT) found no reasonable grounds to believe that members of the Codiac Regional RCMP committed a criminal offence in connection with the death of a man who died in hospital after going into medical distress in police cells.
The RCMP responded to a 911 call regarding an intoxicated male on November 19, 2022. They arrested the male under the Intoxicated Persons Detention Act, and he was taken to police cells. Police monitored the male according to RCMP procedure. He went into medical distress, and officers performed CPR until emergency services arrived. He was transported to hospital where he sadly died on November 23, 2022.
