Serious Incident Response Team Investigating Death in Nova Scotia

The Serious Incident Response Team (SiRT) is investigating a matter involving the death of a male that occurred after an interaction with members of Halifax Regional Police (HRP).
Preliminary information suggests the following:
- On the night of February 28, 2025, HRP officers received a call regarding an adult male who was displaying erratic behaviour.
- Police arrived on scene in Bedford where they located the male.
- A struggle ensued between police and the male and a taser was deployed.
- The male’s health began to deteriorate.
- The officers administered naloxone and first aid.
- The male was transported to the hospital by EHS where he was later pronounced deceased.
Due to the death of the male, SiRT has assumed responsibility for this investigation.
SiRT is responsible for investigating all matters that involve death, serious injury, sexual assault and intimate partner violence or other matters of public interest to be investigated that may have arisen from the actions of any police officer in Nova Scotia or New Brunswick. Investigations are under the direction and control of an independent civilian director, who has the sole authority to determine if charges should be laid at the conclusion of an investigation.
