Serious Incident Repose Team Investigating Death in Nova Scotia

The Serious Incident Response Team (SiRT) is investigating a matter involving the death of a male that occurred during an interaction with members of Halifax Regional Police (HRP).

Preliminary information suggests the following:

  • On the night of February 22, 2025, HRP officers were called to a home in Fairview.
  • When police arrived, they entered the residence and located a male who appeared to be in distress.
  • A struggle ensued between police and the male and a taser was deployed.
  • The male’s health began to deteriorate.
  • Help was provided by first responders, however, the male was pronounced deceased.

Due to the death of the male, SiRT has assumed responsibility for this investigation.

SiRT is responsible for investigating all matters that involve death, serious injury, sexual assault and intimate partner violence or other matters of public interest to be investigated that may have arisen from the actions of any police officer in Nova Scotia or New Brunswick. Investigations are under the direction and control of an independent civilian director, who has the sole authority to determine if charges should be laid at the conclusion of an investigation.
