The province's independent Serious Incident Response Team (SiRT) released its report today regarding an allegation of sexual assault against a female committed by a New Glasgow Police Officer.

On September 29, 2022, SiRT was contacted by the New Glasgow Police Department after an allegation of a historical sexual assault was posted on social media. The female, the Affected Party (AP), who made the post, alleged she had been sexually assaulted as a child by a New Glasgow Police Officer.

During the course of the investigation, interviews were conducted with the AP, family members of the AP, and civilian witnesses. The Subject Officer (SO) did not provide a statement. Based on the information gathered, it was determined there was insufficient evidence to conclude that the AP was sexually assaulted by the SO.

SiRT is responsible for investigating all serious incidents involving police in Nova Scotia. Investigations are under the direction and control of the independent civilian director Alonzo Wright, who is solely responsible for decisions respecting the laying of any charge.
