No Evidence to Suggest Wrongdoing by Members of Cape Breton Regional Police

The province’s independent Serious Incident Response Team (SiRT) released its report today regarding an investigation into an allegation of missing money.

 

In the late summer of 2019, SiRT was contacted by a member of the public alleging, that in 2018, members of the Cape Breton Regional Police seized a quantity of money from them greater than the officers reported. SiRT began an investigation into the matter that day.

 

The investigation, which took 31 months to complete, carefully and thoroughly reviewed all of the evidence gathered and has determined that there were no reasonable or probable grounds to believe that any of the officers involved committed a criminal offence.

SiRT is responsible for investigating all serious incidents involving police in Nova Scotia. Investigators are under the direction and control of independent civilian director Felix Cacchione, who is solely responsible for decisions respecting the laying of any charges.
