Report released regarding domestic violence charges against RCMP officer

The province's independent Serious Incident Response Team (SiRT) released a report today regarding an investigation involving a male officer with the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) in relation to a domestic violence incident.

Charges of assault and uttering threats were laid today against Cst. Gregory Whalen, 47, an eight-year member of the RCMP. The charges are the result of an investigation that commenced on October 20, 2017, when a call was received from the RCMP. Cst. Whalen is scheduled to make his first appearance in Truro Provincial Court on November 29, 2017.

SIRT is responsible for investigating all serious incidents involving police in Nova Scotia. Investigations are under the direction and control of independent civilian interim director John Scott, who is solely responsible for decisions respecting the laying of any charge.
