Investigation begins into RCMP arrest in Lower Sackville.

In the early afternoon of October 18^th RCMP attended an address on Cobequid Rd in Lower Sackville seeking an individual in relation to an earlier complaint from the public.  The police reportedly gained entry into the address and engaged an individual inside who was subsequently made subject to a police Tazer.  Once secured into custody, the individual was found to have a significant laceration to his head, the cause of which has not yet been determined. The individual was treated at hospital for his injuries which were not life threatening.  

As a result of the injury the matter was referred to SiRT, which has begun its investigation.

The Serious Incident Response Team is responsible for investigating all serious incidents involving police in Nova Scotia, whether or not there is an allegation of wrongdoing. Investigations are under the direction and control of independent civilian interim director John Scott.

The team can independently begin an investigation after a referral from a chief of police, the head of the RCMP in Nova Scotia or the Minister of Justice. It can also investigate after a complaint from the public.

The Police Act requires the director to file a public report summarizing the result of the investigation within three months after it is finished.
