RCMP Shooting Leads to Investigation
Early this morning Bridgetown RCMP officers responded to a complaint of arson at a home in Hillsburn, Annapolis County. A short time later they received a gun complaint in relation to the suspect in the arson matter. Upon arrival, officers encountered the 55-year-old male suspect who was now operating a stolen vehicle. Due to the manner of his driving officers fired shots toward the vehicle. The male suffered a non-life threatening injury and was taken to hospital. The investigation is continuing.
SiRT was contacted shortly after the incident occurred, and have responded to the scene this morning.

The Serious Incident Response Team is responsible for investigating all serious incidents involving police in Nova Scotia, whether or not there is an allegation of wrongdoing.
The team can independently begin an investigation after a referral from a chief of police, the head of the RCMP in Nova Scotia or the Minister of Justice. It can also investigate after a complaint from the public.
The Police Act requires the director to file a public report summarizing the result of the investigation within three months after it is finished.
