RCMP Member Charged with Sexual Assault
The province's independent Serious Incident Response Team (SiRT) today released its report into allegations made against a male member of the RCMP – Halifax. In late March the Team received an allegation of an assault by the male against a female member of the RCMP occurring on March 24, 2015, and an allegation of a sexual assault involving the inappropriate sexual touching of a female RCMP civilian employee occurring on March 25, 2015. Both incidents are said to have occurred during a three day RCMP meeting at White Point Beach Lodge in Queen’s County.
After investigation into both matters, a charge of sexual assault was laid today against Sgt. Kenneth James Taker, 47, of Dartmouth in relation to the March 25th matter. Details of both incidents will not be disclosed at this time to protect the fair trial interests of the accused.
Sgt. Taker will be summoned to appear in Liverpool Provincial Court on July 7, 2015.

SIRT is responsible for investigating all serious incidents involving police in Nova Scotia. Investigations are under the direction and control of independent civilian director Ron MacDonald, who is solely responsible for decisions respecting the laying of any charge.
