No Evidence for Charges Against CRBPS Officers
The province's independent Serious Incident Response Team (SiRT) released a report today regarding its investigation of three members of the Cape Breton Regional Police Service (CBRPS) regarding allegations of possible obstruction of justice and being a party to an offence.
In September of 2013 the CBRPS provided information to SiRT in relation to one of its officers. SiRT commenced an investigation at that time. A public release was not made at the time as doing so may have compromised the investigative integrity of the matter. The investigation eventually included two other officers.
After an extensive investigation over 19 months, it was determined there was no evidence available to justify charges against any of the officers. Further details of the matter cannot be released due to issues related to the safety and legal rights of individuals involved.

SIRT is responsible for investigating all serious incidents involving police in Nova Scotia. Investigations are under the direction and control of independent civilian director Ron MacDonald, who is solely responsible for decisions respecting the laying of any charge.
