No Charges Against HRP Officer in Sexual Assault Complaint
The province's independent Serious Incident Response Team (SiRT) released its report today regarding an allegation of sexual assault against a male Halifax Regional Police (HRP) Officer.
On December 21, 2017, SiRT was contacted by the Halifax Regional Police after receiving information from the husband of the Affected Party (“AP”) about a sexual assault. The AP’s husband advised HRP that he wished to provide information concerning the Subject Officer’s (“SO”) involvement in a sexual assault on his wife. The incident is alleged to have occurred while the officer was on duty in May of 2012.
During the course of the investigation interviews were conducted with the SO, the AP, Witness Officer and other witnesses. Based on the information gathered, it was determined there was insufficient evidence amounting to reasonable and probable grounds to lay a charge of sexual assault against the officer.

SiRT is responsible for investigating all serious incidents involving police in Nova Scotia. Investigations are under the direction and control of the independent civilian director Felix Cacchione, who is solely responsible for decisions respecting the laying of any charge.
