The province’s Serious Incident Response Team (SiRT) released its report today regarding an allegation of sexual assault made against a male officer of the Halifax Regional Police.

On February 22, 2018, SiRT was contacted by the HRP/RCMP Integrated Sexual Assault Unit as a result of a brief conversation that was had with a civilian female, the Affected Party (AP), concerning an alleged sexual assault. The Subject Officer (SO) and the AP were known to each other.

As part of the investigation, SiRT interviewed the AP and the SO, reviewed text messages exchanged between them and reviewed the reports of the Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner.

The investigation determined that there had been sexual encounters between the AP and the SO but that all encounters were consensual. Based on the totality of the evidence gathered in this investigation there are no reasonable or probable grounds to conclude that the SO committed a sexual assault with respect to the AP. Therefore, there are no grounds to consider any charge against the SO.
