Kentville Police Cleared in Arrest of a Person Wanted on Warrants
The province’s Serious Incident Response Team (SiRT) released its report today regarding the arrest of a person wanted on warrants.
In the early afternoon of August 9, 2022, Kentville Police had a home under surveillance in the hopes of arresting a person known to them with outstanding warrants for missing court dates. When the person left the home and got in their car, the officer conducting the surveillance followed them.
When the person stopped at a gas station, the officer, who was not in uniform, approached the person, identified himself as a police officer, showed them their badge and told them not to move. The person took off running and jumped over a three-foot railing at the edge of the parking lot. On the other side of the railing was a six-foot embankment and the person suffered a serious knee injury as a result of their jump.
The officer placed the person under arrest on the outstanding warrants.
The injury to the person’s knee resulted entirely from their own voluntary actions. Therefore, there are no grounds to consider any charges against the officer.
