Investigation Results in Charge Against RCMP Member

The province's independent Serious Incident Response Team (SiRT) has laid one charge against a member of the RCMP – Annapolis District

SiRT was contacted on March 21^st, 2023, by the RCMP concerning an investigation they were conducting in relation to a motor vehicle collision that was alleged to have occurred on Highway 101 in Kings County. SiRT commenced an investigation into the matter and has deemed that a charge is appropriate in the circumstances..

Cst. Murray John Macleod will face a charge of failing to drive on the right-hand side of a highway, contrary to section 110(1) of the Motor Vehicle Act. Cst. MacLeod is scheduled to appear in the Kentville Provincial Court, 87 Cornwallis Street, Kentville NS, on August 9, 2023, at 9:30 a.m.

The Serious Incident Response Team is responsible for investigating all serious incidents involving police in Nova Scotia and New Brunswick. The team can independently begin an investigation after a referral from a chief of police, the head of the RCMP in New Brunswick or Nova Scotia or the Minister of Justice of each province. It can also investigate after a complaint from the public.

The Police Act requires the director to file a public report summarizing the result of the investigation within three months after it is finished.
