Investigation into HRP Disturbance Call
The province’s independent Serious Incident Response Team (SiRT) has commenced an investigation into injuries suffered by a male who fell from the third-floor balcony of an apartment.
In the late evening of Friday, January 12th, HRP officers responded to a disturbance call at an apartment on Evans Avenue in Halifax. Upon arrival, officers went to a third-floor apartment, but were denied entry by the lone male inside. The male, who was not a tenant of that apartment or any other apartment in the building, was known to the female tenant of that unit. Permission to enter the apartment and remove the male was obtained from the female tenant who was not in the area at the time.
As police were entering the apartment, the male went over the railing on the balcony and fell to the ground below. Police immediately called for an ambulance and the uncooperative male was transported to hospital where x-rays revealed injuries to his neck and back. Based on the injuries, HRP notified SiRT.

The Serious Incident Response Team is responsible for investigating all serious incidents involving police in Nova Scotia whether or not there is an allegation of wrong doing. Investigations are under the direction and control of the independent civilian interim director John Scott.
