Investigation Begins into Shooting Involving a Member of the RCMP
Shortly before 7:00 this morning the Serious Incident Response Team (SiRT), was contacted by the RCMP in relation to an officer involved shooting on Hwy 101 near Berwick, Nova Scotia.
At approximately 4 a.m., an officer with the Kings District RCMP conducted a traffic stop on Hwy. 101 for a Motor Vehicle offence. While the vehicle was stopped, an incident took place between the officer and the male driver and a firearm was discharged.
The male driver fled the scene on foot into nearby woods.
When the male suspect was found by officers a short-time later, it appeared that the male had sustained a non-life-threatening injury. He was transported to hospital for assessment and medical treatment. He was released from the hospital and remains in custody awaiting a court appearance.
As the investigation continues, SiRT is asking anyone who may have witnessed the incident to please contact them at 1-855-450-2010 with any information they may have.
