HRP Officer Charged for Traffic Accident under MVA
The province's independent Serious Incident Response Team (SiRT) today released its report about its investigation of a traffic accident involving a Halifax Regional Police (HRP) vehicle at the Willow Tree intersections on Tuesday, May 16, 2017.
On that date, at approximately 4:50 p.m., an HRP member was responding to a call in his police vehicle. As he entered the “Willow Tree” intersection from Cogswell St., intending on continuing down Quinpool Road, there was a collision between his vehicle and a civilian vehicle driven by a 33-year-old female, who was driving alone. She suffered a fractured collarbone in the crash.
After an investigation that included speaking to 11 civilian witnesses, the collection of video, and obtaining a forensic examination of the scene, today two charges were laid against Cst. Brandon Scott Hurley, a 27-year-old HRP member. He has been charged with two charges under the Motor Vehicle Act of Nova Scotia: Failing to Stop at a Red Light, and Failing to Drive with Due Regard for All Person Using the Highway. His first appearance is scheduled for Provincial Court in Halifax on November 25, 2017.
