Further Charges Laid Against Halifax Regional Police Officer

Yesterday, April 24, the province's independent Serious Incident Response Team (SiRT) laid new charges against Cst. Chris Mosher, 30, of the Halifax Regional Police. Cst. Mosher now faces four new counts of allegedly breaching his release conditions by possessing alcohol contrary to the relevant release orders. The charges relate to matters alleged to have occurred in Lantz, Hants County, and Dartmouth and Halifax.  No court date for his appearance has been set at this time.

SiRT commenced an investigation into the matter in December 2013 as a result of information received from a member of the public.  Ron MacDonald, the independent Director of SiRT, is responsible for all decisions on charges and the laying of a charge. SiRT’s final report in this matter has been released and can be found at sirt.novascotia.ca.

SIRT is responsible for investigating all serious incidents involving police in Nova Scotia. Investigations are under the direction and control of independent civilian director Ron MacDonald.

The team can independently launch an investigation, or begin one after a referral from a chief of police, the head of the RCMP in Nova Scotia or the Minister of Justice. It can also investigate after a complaint from the public.

A public report summarizing the results of the investigation must be filed within three months after it is finished.
